About Our Civic Life
We are building a community of 19.2M Americans by 2030 who are 1) eager to reclaim our civic life; 2) actively engaging with community in new ways based on new principles; 3) willing to imagine an America dramatically kinder, more creative, and more free for more people.
We run three programs that correspond with the ALTITUDES of our framework as the content, conditions, and container for the reclamation of our civic life.
The Container
The Common Bond: an experience project of civic rituals that create and enable productive listening and bridging community experiences for people all over the country as the secondary effects of doing things and sharing joy together. The Common Bond hosts community conversations (design-thinking guided listening and discussions at municipal/neighborhood levels around the country that create data and insight into the bridging opporuntieis in local communities around the country), citizen assemblies (structured civic conversations that connect listening and empathy to ideas and solutions), and civic festivals (public oppountiies to elelvate local engagement and particiaption in joyous and playful contexts) that together create bonds between community members oriented toward doing things together and getting more community as the core outcome of the expriences.
The Conditions/Framing
The Re-enchantment of America: a media and advocacy project meant to recast the mean-spirted, conflict-centric, hyperpartison, hyperpolized narrative that dominates political media and civic culture with a different story about why we are struggling to reclaim a civc life that so many Americans are craving. Predominantly a traveling podcast that invites people into the ongoing work of building The Common Bond and shares the experiences across disparate communities that offers narrative bridges between seemingly disconnected communities. This frame also shapes the work of a broader reform agenda to redesign and reimagine the procedures we use to share power in collaboration with the community of reformers across the country.
The Content
A Generative America: a narrative project to provide a new vision for an America built on a completely new social contract grounded in principles that will help us reshape society and redesign our systems and institutions in service of people, communtiies, and the natural systems they are part of and rely on. A core text that provides a rigorous reexmining of our history and the foundation for humanity that provides a new langauge for a just, free, creative society and that enables an explosion of content in multiple formats, multiple platforms, interconnected communities, and diverse voices to create a cultural foundation for the new policies and new systems we need to reimgaine America for the next generations.
